ATLANTA - Emory University has received a ten-million-dollar grant to create a new doctoral program in theology.
The grant comes from Lilly Endowment Incorporated, the community service arm of Indianapolis pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company. The money will be used to begin a doctoral program in practical theology, training teachers who will later teach at theological schools across the country.
Emory, which was founded by the Methodist Church, cited reports that many theology teachers are soon to retire.
The doctoral program will admit eight students a year for the next five years.
