FORT VALLEY - One college student was raped and three others were robbed in a home invasion early Monday morning just north of the Fort Valley State University campus.
All four victims are female students at the school. Fort Valley Police Capt. William Richardson said three men wearing T-shirts around their faces knocked on the door about 1 a.m. and forced themselves into the apartment.
The men were armed with handguns and bound two of the women with duct tape. The other two women were not tied up, but one was taken into a back room and raped by one of the men, Richardson said.
Fort Valley police have suspects in the incident and are ``trying to round them up,'' Richardson said, adding that the men fled with money and cellular telephones they took from the apartment.
Investigators believe the assault and robbery is related to a similar incident a couple of weeks ago, in an area also dominated by Fort Valley State University students. Richardson said they may have been targeted because students often have money at the beginning of a school year.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation analyzed the crime scene Monday morning, but is not handling other aspects of the investigation, agent Mike McDaniel said.
