CANTON - Cherokee County authorities want to question a man from Missouri in connection with the attack of a Georgia woman who was left in the woods.
A Cherokee County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman identifies the suspect as 30-year-old Danny Dutton, a native of Missouri. Spokeswoman Nicole Ebbeskotte says the man is wanted in that state on charges he assaulted a police officer. She says he was last seen fleeing police in Illinois.
The woman told authorities Thursday she had been beaten with a baseball bat and left in the woods overnight. She is recovering in a hospital.
The spokeswoman says Cherokee County deputies began looking for Dutton while investigating an incident Friday. She says a man was shot and then kicked out of a speeding pickup truck. She says Dutton was the driver of the pickup truck.
Ebbeskotte says the shooting victim is an acquaintance of the woman who was attacked.
