ATLANTA - A Fulton County judge has set bond at $50,000 for an East Point woman accused of contributing to the death of her three-year-old granddaughter.
Beverly Headspeth has not raised the money she needs to leave jail. But her attorney - Benjamin Davis - says he will talk with family members about helping her come up with the money.
The 45-year-old Headspeth is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and contributing to the deprivation of a minor in connection with the death of her granddaughter, Alexis, in early August.
Her trial is scheduled for October first.
Superior Court Judge Bensonetta Tipton Lane wrote in granting the bond that there is little risk that Headspeth will flee the Atlanta area.
Five days before the girl was held under water in the bathtub, Headspeth told a state caseworker that she could not stop her eleven-year-old son from beating children in the home. The eleven-year-old was in charge of Alexis' bath the night she was injured.
