ATLANTA - A fire broke out below the seats of Bobby Dodd Stadium Saturday about three hours after Georgia Tech beat Brigham Young 28-19.
The blaze started in a storage area on the west side of the stadium. Smoke spread through the interior into the press box and club level seats, said Capt. Tim Norton of the Atlanta Fire Department.
Norton said his crew rescued a man from beneath the stands. The man was not burned but was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.
Officials believe the cause of the fire to be electrical, since a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area less than an hour before the fire started.
Norton said there's still too much smoke trapped downstairs to tell what burned, but the exterior of the 89-year-old stadium escaped unharmed
