We're seeing an interesting thing in America right now, something we haven't seen in a few years. It is called leadership. George W. Bush is providing leadership, not only for the United States but also for the world.
A year ago when this nation was hit by 9-11, President Bush ... fairly new to the office told the world we must defeat the evil of terrorism or else expect many repeats of 9-11. He identified rogue nations and named names. He pointed out that other nations were either for us or against us. He took criticism from the usual quarters. The liberals were critical when we went into Afghanistan, but we went. That battle is not over, but the Taliban and Al Quida no longer have that troubled nation as its headquarters. In fact, Afghanistan can not serve as a base for our operations if we so choose.
Now the president publicly identifies the problem we face in Iraq, and while most Americans agree we must stop world terrorism, again the usual coalition of appeasers finds all kinds of reasons why we should not shut down the "Butcher of Baghdad." The Democrats say Bush is using the war for politics, and drag their feet. The bleeding hearts say we need to be sweet to Saddam Hussein or else there might be body bags. The media echoes the critics line that other nations of the world are not with us. But when President Bush told the world that if the United Nations did not do its job, America would, all of a sudden we find we have friends and allies all over the globe. The important thing is that the President of the United States has spoken, and for once the world believes him.
America has been thrust into a position where it can lead the world to peace and progress. We have the power to do that. All it takes is leadership, and now it appears we have a leader.
