School newspapers confiscated for criticizing superintendent

CHAMBLEE - Articles written by two student journalists criticizing the new DeKalb County school superintendent led to the confiscation of copies of the Chamblee Charter High&#39;s school newspaper. <br> <br> Superintendent Johnny Brown, who came to DeKalb this summer from the Birmingham, Alabama, school system, questioned Chamblee Principal Cheryl Finke on Friday about stories written by student journalists J.C. Boyle and Alan Simpson. <br> <br> This school year&#39;s first issue of the Blue and Gold, published last week, included an article and a critical editorial about the new initiatives in DeKalb, including school uniforms, and controversies in the Birmingham school system. <br> <br> Brown&#39;s executive assistant, Sterling Thomas, says the articles contained errors. He said only papers that had not been distributed were taken up and that the action was justified because the newspaper is a school system publication.
