WARNER ROBINS - A Warner Robins nursing home that was ordered to pay a $5,000-per-day fine after an Alzheimer's patient wandered away from the facility and was struck and killed by a sports utility van has had the fine reduced.
Warner Robins Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Elberta Road will now pay only $100 a day in fines. The five-thousand-dollar fine was imposed by authorities one day after Anthony Weldon wandered away from the home for the 18th time on August 31.
State investigators recommended the fine be lowered after visiting the home last week, finding that changes had been made to ensure the health and safety of the residents.
The head of the state department that regulates nursing homes in Georgia, David Dunbar, said the lower fine was approved by the federal Centers for Medicare And Medicaid Services.
