NORCROSS - The owner of three adult video and novelty stores has avoided trial after a Gwinnett County official dropped charges against the owner and his employees.
A charge of distributing an obscene video was dismissed yesterday against John Cornetta, who owns a video store called The Love Shack off Interstate 85 in Norcross.
Cornetta was expected to stand trial next week. If convicted, he could have faced a year in jail and a five-thousand-dollar fine.
Residents of Peachtree Corners and local church groups wanted the store out of their neighborhood and staged protests. In March 2001, police raided the store.
Earlier this year, a federal appeals court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Gwinnett County to block the opening of Love Shack Two. It opened in July.
Jack Be Nimble, LLC, a company also owned by Cornetta, pleaded guilty to possessing one obscene video and was fined five-thousand dollars.
Cornetta's attorney says the stores will remain open.
