Law passed by Macon city council in July can't be enforced

MACON - A law passed by the City Council in July that would require parents to attend sports orientation classes or their children would not be allowed to play youth sports cannot legally be enforced. <br> <br> Under the law, offenders could be prosecuted under existing disorderly conduct laws that carry penalties of 50 days in jail and up to $500 in fines. <br> <br> But yesterday, Mike Anthony, director of the Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department said the council approved the concept of the orientation classes but never approved the actual guidelines. <br> <br> Anthony said the city attorney determined the council needs to approve the guidelines before the city can enforce the law. <br> <br> The city attorney&#39;s decision came after questions from officials with Vine-Ingle Senior Little League baseball, who said they did not have enough time to put all the parents through orientation classes before the first games Saturday.
