Ethics commission chides Peachtree City mayor

By
PEACHTREE CITY - A Peachtree City ethics commission has given Mayor Steve Brown a wrist-slapping for letting a city employee drive his daughter to golf camp.

Brown had filed the ethics complaint against himself.

The commission ordered Brown yesterday to pay the city employee for 30 minutes of her time. It also told him not to do it again.

Brown said he filed the complaint in part because he feared one of his detractors would do it first.

Brown had planned to drive his daughter himself, but found out that a council meeting was scheduled at the same time on July 24th. So, a City Hall employee volunteered to drive his daughter to the golf course.

Later, city manager Jim Basinger told Brown he might have violated the ethics law. Brown apologized and offered to reimburse the city.
