ATLANTA - The Georgia Board of Natural Resources has named the former head of the DeKalb County parks system to head state parks.
The board named Becky Kelley to be the new director of the state Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Division during a vote yesterday.

She replaces Burt Weerts, who is retiring after a 34-year career with the state Department of Natural Resources. That includes the last seven as head of state parks.

The state parks division generates about 40 percent of its budget from fees and rentals.
Kelley says she sees promotion of the parks as a big part of her job because people don't know a lot about the parks.
Kelley was director of the DeKalb County Parks and Recreation Department for ten years before becoming administrator of the county's parks bond program in February.
