AMES, IOWA - Seneca Wallace and Iowa State have shifted the balance of power in the Big 12 North.

Wallace scored two touchdowns and passed for another and Adam Benike kicked three field goals as the 19th-ranked Cyclones added to Nebraska's woes with a 36-14 win over the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers on Saturday.

Iowa State (5-1, 2-0 Big 12) handed Nebraska (3-2, 0-1) its first consecutive regular-season losses since 1976, Tom Osborne's fourth year. The Cyclones beat the Cornhuskers for the first time since 1992 and ended their winning streak in conference openers at 27. It was Iowa State's first victory over a ranked team since 1993.

For Nebraska, the loss came two weeks after a numbing 40-7 setback to Penn State and is sure to turn up the heat on fifth-year coach Frank Solich, whose team has lost four of its last seven.

The Cornhuskers also could fall out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1981, ending a run 348 straight appearances.

Iowa State has won five straight, the first time that has happened in a season since 1980, and the Cyclones are poised to make a run for the Big 12 North championship. Thousands of Iowa State fans swarmed onto the field when the game ended, with many climbing the goal posts.

The Cyclones scored 17 points off turnovers - Nebraska had five in all - and held the Cornhuskers to 81 yards rushing. Nebraska had averaged 411 yards rushing in its last nine games against Iowa State, but the 'Huskers did not run a play in Iowa State territory until less than 10 minutes remained.

By that time, Mike Stuntz had replaced an ineffective Jammal Lord at quarterback. Lord's only highlight was a 90-yard touchdown pass to Ross Pilkington in the second quarter.

Wallace scored on runs of 1 and 7 yards, and he hit Lane Danielsen for a 3-yard touchdown pass. Wallace finished 19-of-32 for 220 yards and two interceptions. Michael Wagner added 107 yards rushing in 19 carries as Iowa State outgained Nebraska 412-273.

As with their loss to Penn State, the Cornhuskers were sloppy and out of sync. They lost two fumbles in the first half, which Iowa State turned into a field goal and a touchdown.

A late hit by Nebraska bailed Iowa State out of a third-and-10 hole on its first scoring drive, and a pass interference call saved Iowa State on third down during its second TD drive. The Cornhuskers also were penalized for breaking the huddle with 12 players, and had a 78-yard kickoff return nullified by a holding call.

Josh Davis' fumble led to 23-yard field goal by Benike, and the Cyclones turned a fumble by Lord into Hiawatha Rutland's 1-yard touchdown dive, making it 10-0.

Nebraska had never overcome a deficit that large under Solich, and it didn't happen this time, either, although the Cornhuskers attempt a rally with Lord's long pass to Pilkington.

Pilkington, a 21-year-old freshman who played two years of minor league baseball, was 10 yards behind the coverage when he caught Lord's pass at midfield and easily outran the pursuit. It was the third-longest pass play in Nebraska history and the longest since a 95-yarder in 1965.

Iowa State answered with 62-yard drive, on which Wallace completed three third-down passes to Danielsen. Benike finished it with a 35-yard field goal for a 13-7 lead.

Danielsen beat his man on a slant pattern to catch a 3-yard touchdown pass from Wallace for a 19-7 lead just before halftime.

The lead grew to 26-7 when Wallace, helped by a push from fullback Joe Woodley, scored on a 1-yard sneak to finish an 80-yard drive starting the second half. Brandon Brown's interception set up Wallace's second touchdown, and Benike topped off the victory with a 37-yard field goal.

Nebraska scored in the second half only after blocking an Iowa State punt and getting the ball at the 2-yard line. Judd Davies went in on the next play.
