Corzine hosts fund raiser at New Jersey golf club

WASHINGTON - New Jersey Senator Jon Corzine will play host to four Democratic colleagues Thursday for a fund-raiser at a private golf club in Princeton, New Jersey.

A Green Party candidate for the House of Representatives, Carl Mayer, says protesters will be outside the club, Jasna Polana, which once was the estate of the family that owns Johnson and Johnson.

Corzine's spokesman, David Wald, said Corzine will use the event to raise money for his federal political action committee, New Jersey United.

Contributors can also make donations to the four other senators in attendance: Democrats Tim Johnson of South Dakota, Max Cleland of Georgia, Jean Carnahan of Missouri and Tom Harkin of Iowa. They are all seeking re-election this fall, while Corzine's term runs through 2006.

Corzine, who was a leading Democratic donor before jumping into the political arena himself in 2000, formed the federal PAC last year. So far it has raised more than $304,000 and distributed nearly $267,000, including $168,000 to Democrats running for Congress.
