SC county rezones tract that could be used for Chrysler plant

MONCKS CORNER, SOUTH CAROLINA - Berkeley County has rezoned parts of a 1,500-acre tract near Interstate 26 thought to be one of the sites DaimlerChrysler is considering for a new van plant that would employ three-thousand. <br>

The county council agreed Monday to rezone parts of the site for heavy industrial, which would clear the way to use the property for the plant. <br>

The company is also said to be considering sites near Jacksonville, Florida, and Savannah for the $700 million plant, though DaimlerChrysler has not confirmed such details. <br>
<br>
Moncks Corner, South Carolina, officials have said an industrial prospect is interested in the site, but have not identified the company.
