TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Florida State got its first on-field look at its 2002 freshmen Wednesday as they practiced for the first time as Seminoles.
``I thought we looked pretty good,'' coach Bobby Bowden said. ``Right now were just trying to teach them, to get them to learn what to do, so when the varsity guys get here they can meld right in.''
Florida State got in a morning and evening practice session, though the latter was shortened by rain. The morning session focused on testing the new Seminoles' running and jumping abilities.
Running back Leon Washington posted the fastest time, a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash.
``The times were fairly impressive considering we were working on a wet field,'' strength and conditioning coach Jon Jost said. ``This is a very athletic group.''
Tallahassee native Pat Watkins had the best broad jump, 10-feet, 4-inches, and while defensive end Darrell Burston leapt 37 inches in the vertical jump.
During the evening practice, the new Seminoles took part in position drills. Quarterback Wyatt Sexton, son of FSU assistant head coach Billy Sexton worked with the running backs and wide receivers, completing 12 of 20 passes.
``They all look good and they're all ears, which is how we want them,'' Bowden said.
