Georgia farmers join lawsuit against cotton seed company

ALBANY - A group of Georgia farmers are suing two cotton seed manufacturers, claiming the genetically enhanced seeds they were sold four years ago were faulty. <br> <br> Farmers from Mitchell, Grady, Treutlen and Appling counties originally filed the suit against Monsanto Company and Delta and Pine Land Company in Fulton County on April 29, but last month it was moved to join a related case in Albany federal Court. <br> <br> Louis Sands, chief federal judge for the Middle District of Georgia, is considering a request to move the matter to St. Louis, Missouri, which is closer to Mosanto&#39;s headquarters. The farmers are seeking $2.4 million. <br> <br> The lawsuit contends the genetic traits applied to a seed stock were not adequately tested for Georgia field conditions and was known to be susceptible to the plant disease bronze wilt. Lawyers for both companies declined comment.
