Former high school basketball coach J.L. Padgett dies

ATLANTA - A memorial service will be held Sunday for J.L. Padgett, whose boys and girls high school basketball teams won four state championships and 721 victories overall.<br> <br> Padgett, 74, of Tucker, who was inducted into the Georgia Basketball Hall of Fame in January, died Tuesday at DeKalb Medical Center. He was buried in his hometown of Baxley.<br> <br> Padgett won his first state championships by leading both the male and female Yellow Jackets of Jeff Davis High School to their respective titles in 1957. Four years later, his Jeff Davis girls were champs again.<br> <br> In 1964, he took the Osborne High School boys team on another title run, a 54-49 triumph in the Class AAA tournament final over South Cobb that closed out a 28-3 season.<br> <br>
