CORDELE - A Crisp County Commissioner awaiting trial for rape is running for re-election.
Arthur James Nance was suspended by the governor in April after his arrest on charges of rape and false imprisonment.

Nance says his biggest battle is not convincing voters of his innocence, but explaining to them that he's still eligible for office. The candidate says he can serve if elected because the charges - which he denies - will be resolved by then.

Nance is running on the platform of creating more jobs. He says the woman who filed charges has made statements that will exhonerate him when he gets his day in court.
After Nance's suspension, Willie Patrick was appointed to the seat. He's hoping to keep it.
The third candidate for the District One, Post Two seat in Crisp County is Annie Ruth Rogers.
