FAYETTEVILLE - Fayetteville State University is investigating men's basketball coach Mike Bernard over questions that he overstated his qualifications on his resume.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, which got a copy of the resume from the university, Bernard claims he earned a master's degree in political science from Atlanta University in 1978. But an official at the school, now known as Clark Atlanta University, says Bernard never received a degree from the school.
Questions about Bernard's resume arose last week when the Observer says it received an anonymous tip questioning the coach's credentials.
The 53-year-old Bernard has won 320 games coaching at North Carolina Central, Norfolk State and Fayetteville State. His N.C. Central team won the NCAA Division Two national championship in 1989.
