GAINESVILLE - The State Board of Regents has awarded several state schools, including Gainesville College, nearly $1.9 million in grants.
The money will go towards an expansion of program offerings in Athens.
The board also approved a plan that would allow four-year schools to offer full degrees at two campuses to students who lack easy access to the four year schools.
The Board of Regents also agreed Wednesday to allow its universities to use more non-tenured lecturers for undergraduate teaching chores, but that won't reduce the quality of instruction.
Currently, the state's research and regional universities can use lecturers for up to 2 percent of faculty-equivalent jobs.
