McRAE - A Telfair County man has been charged in the shooting death of his brother-in-law, just days after leaving Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Augusta, police said.
James Creamer, 22, hitchhiked to the rural south Georgia town just a few days after being treated for mental problems in Augusta.

Creamer was most recently enrolled in a transition program at the center used for homeless military veterans, said center spokeswoman Rosalie Bell.
Creamer allegedly went to his father's house Tuesday night, took a .22-caliber rifle and then went to his mother's home, McRae Police Chief Ken Wilcox said.

At his mother's house, Creamer found his wife, Tabitha Creamer, with his mother, Robin Creamer, and his brother-in-law Cecil Vaughn, sitting on the front porch.
Creamer allegedly began shooting randomly, hitting Vaughn approximately 15 times, Wilcox said. Vaughn died later at Telfair Regional Hospital.
Creamer also beat his mother after chasing her around the house and attacked his wife before leaving, Wilcox said. He has been charged with assault in those cases.
