GRIFFIN - A judge denied bond for a Douglas County man who led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a head-on collision with a deputy.
Warren Lee Mace Jr., 49, remained in jail Monday on charges that he stabbed his wife and stepson over the weekend. He also was charged with reckless driving, DUI and fleeing officers.
Police said Mace led officers on a chase on Ga. 92 Saturday that reached speeds of 70 to 100 mph before he crashed into a deputy's car around 12:45 a.m. Spalding County Deputy Teresa Akins was treated for injuries at an Atlanta hospital.
Douglas County officials were investigating the attacks at Mace's home. Michelle Mace was cut with a pocketknife. Police said her husband also tried to stab her in the heart. Her 14-year-old-son, Maverick, was cut on the throat but survived.
``I know what my husband has done was not right and he needs to be punished for that, but at the same time he needs to be helped ...,'' she told the judge Monday.
She said her husband had abused her for eight years.
The judge said Mace posed a danger to the community and would likely flee if released.
