Report: South Carolina man arrested in Texas

By
COLUMBIA, S.C. - A man sought in a killing spree across the Carolinas has been captured in Texas, an Atlanta television station reported Wednesday.

WAGA-TV reported Quincy Allen, 22, was arrested about 6:18 a.m. near Colorado City, Texas.

A sheriff's dispatcher in Mitchell County, Texas, would not talk about the situation Wednesday morning. The sheriff was not immediately available.

Richland County sheriff's spokesman, Lt. Joseph Pellicci, did not immediately return phone calls Wednesday morning.

U.S. marshals tipped the Texas Department of Public Safety that the stolen, red 2002 Ford Explorer that Allen was driving had been spotted outside Abilene, Texas, at a gas station, WAGA reported.

Authorities approached the vehicle and shots were fired. A chase followed, and Allen was taken into custody by Mitchell County, Texas, sheriff's deputies, the station reported.

Allen was charged in a fourth death Tuesday after Richland County sheriff's investigators linked him to a burned body found here last month.

Allen was charged with shooting Dale Evonne Hall, 45, of Columbia, and setting her body on fire next to Interstate 77 early July 10, Pellicci said. Allen also is charged with fatally shooting Jedediah Harr after an argument in his car here last Thursday.

Pellicci says Hall and Harr were killed with a shotgun and investigators have forensic evidence linking Allen to both crime scenes.

Allen also is wanted in Monday's shooting deaths of two men at a North Carolina convenience store. A store camera captured Allen shooting clerk Richard Hawks, 53, of Lowgap, N.C., and customer Robert Shane Roush, 29, of Lancaster, Ohio, police said.

Investigators think Allen stole Roush's red 2002 Ford Explorer and headed to the Atlanta area.

Surry (N.C.) County Sheriff Connie Watson said Allen shot the men without any confrontation.

Allen has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, robbery and larceny in the North Carolina shootings.
