DALLAS - Former Dallas Cowboys lineman Nate Newton - who now lives in Ellijay - was sentenced Wednesday to 30 months in prison after being caught with 175 pounds of marijuana in December. <br>

Newton pleaded guilty in April to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana. He could have faced up to 20 years and a one million dollar fine. <br>

He faces similar charges in Louisiana, where he was arrested November 4 and accused of driving a van loaded with 213 pounds of marijuana. <br>

Newton is a six-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman who helped the Dallas Cowboys win three Super Bowls. He spent 14 seasons in the NFL, 13 with Dallas. <br>
<br>
The 40-year-old Newton has already served more than eight months in a detention center in the Dallas suburb of Seagoville since his arrest on December 12. He was released Wednesday but must report to prison October 8.
