UNION CITY - Three people died in a shooting outside a nonprofit complex that includes a retirement home, a health care center for senior citizens and a youth home, authorities said.
Union City Police Chief Mike Isome said a Christian City security guard was one of those killed Wednesday night near the 400-acre compound.

Officers responding to a call about gunshots found a man and woman in the roadway leading into Christian City about 10 p.m. and later found the body of the security guard about a block away.

Isome said he believed the guard heard a disturbance and went to investigate.

It does not appear that the man and woman were associated with Christian City, Isome said early Thursday.

Police did not have a motive. No weapons were found at the scene, the chief said.

The victims' names were not released pending notification of relatives.
Isome said it was the first instance of violence inside Christian City that he could recall.
