KINGSLAND - Kingsland City Council meetings have been cancelled until after the Nov. 5 elections after the mayor and two councilmen resigned to run for higher office.
The departure of Mayor Keith Dixon, Kenneth Smith and Jimmy Johnson left the council a quorum.
Johnson and Smith resigned this week to run for mayor after Dixon stepped down to run for state representative.
City Manager Dayton Gillette said the city should run smoothly until the vacant city council seats are filled.
Issues that need a council vote, such as re-zoning requests, will have to wait until November, Gillette said.
Councilman Warren Bennett will be acting mayor until a Sept. 17 special election between Smith and Johnson to complete Dixon's term, which expires Dec. 31, 2003.
