COLUMBIA, S.C. - A small fire broke out Friday at Clemson University's Littlejohn Coliseum. It is the second fire since renovations began earlier this year on the nearly 35-year-old building in which the Tigers play basketball.
No one was injured in the blaze that was reported about 3:15 p.m., said spokeswoman Beth Jarrard. Damage was confined to a portico being added to the east side of the coliseum.
The cause was under investigation and it was unclear Friday what effect the blaze would have on renovations under way at the arena.
Earlier this week, Clemson said the $31.1 million construction project was slightly ahead of schedule. The first basketball game scheduled for Littlejohn is a men's contest Jan. 5 against Duke.
In April, a glue gun was blamed for a fire. That blaze was contained in a concession area being added to the coliseum's north end.
