Residents of the Griffin-Spalding County area may be placed on a drought alert Monday.

The alert would give the county the go-ahead to buy nearly one million gallons of water from neighboring Clayton and Henry counties.

In addition, businesses would be ordered to cut usage even further.

Officials in the area already had implemented a complete ban on outdoor watering early in the summer.

Connie Hendricks with the City of Griffin Water Department says customers have been under a 100 percent outdoor water ban since June 26. She says the lack of rain has caused the reservoir levels to become depleted and the water supply is down to about 30 days.
North of Atlanta, water levels at Lake Allatoona are nearly six feet below the normal summer pool because of the drought.
The low levels are causing problems for boaters.
