LAKE PARK - A wildlife official says a black bear has died of dehydration after wandering onto a golf course in south Georgia, climbing a tree and spending about six hours in the sun. <br>

The 200-pound female bear was found dead Saturday at Francis Lake Golf Course at Lake Park in Lowndes County, southeast of Valdosta. <br>

Wildlife officials discovered the bear was dead when she didn't respond to a tranquilizer dart of Telasol, a respiratory depressant used to sedate bears. They were considering injecting her again when she fell 25 feet from the tree. <br>

Officials tried to cool the bear down with water, but the long exposure to heat had taken its toll. <br>

Hon says bears are rare in Lowndes County but their population is increasing in Echols, Clinch, Ware, Brantley and Charlton counties. Echols is having a bear hunting season three times this fall.
