COLUMBUS - Former major league catcher Glenn Davis was elected Tuesday to a Columbus Council seat in his first attempt for public office. <br>

Davis -- who played ten major league seasons, mostly with the Houston Astros -- took a 68-percent majority over local activist Colin Martin. <br>

Davis was a National League All-Star in 1986 and 1989, and was runner-up for league Most Valuable Player in 1986. He settled in Columbus after his retirement, spending most of his time working with a Christian youth camp.
