MARIETTA - The Cobb County Board of Education plans to discuss Thursday night whether teachers should be allowed to teach faith-based ideas along with evolution.
The discussion comes a day after the American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit seeking to force the Cobb County school board to remove disclaimers on evolution from thousands of middle and high school textbooks.
The stickers were placed in new science books this month after requests from parents opposed to evolution on religious grounds.
The father of an elementary school student -- Jeffrey Selman -- initiated the lawsuit. He said placing advisories in science texts is an attempt to inject religion into public schools in violation of the separation of church and state.
