Family asks for sympathy as grand jury considers 'mercy killings'

GRIFFIN - As a grand jury heard evidence against Carol Carr, who is accused of fatally shooting her two terminally ill sons, Carr&#39;s surviving son and other supporters gathered on the courthouse steps Thursday to appeal for compassion. <br> <br> James Scott said he wanted authorities to drop all charges against his mother, who has been in custody since her sons were shot in their beds at a Griffin nursing home June eighth. <br> <br> Forty-two-year-Randy Scott and 41-year-old Andy Scott suffered from Huntington&#39;s disease, a genetic, degenerative nerve disorder that causes involuntary body movement, dementia and death. Their father, Carr&#39;s first husband, died of the disease. <br> <br> James Scott said, ``She&#39;s suffered enough already. She&#39;s just seen so many die with this.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> He also has the disease. <br> <br> Spalding County District Attorney William McBroom declined to comment Thursday, but he has argued in court that murder charges are called for in the case. <br> <br> Spokeswoman Sharon Lunsford said the district attorney expects to wrap up his presentation to the grand jury by Friday afternoon.
