GRIFFIN - As a grand jury heard evidence against Carol Carr, who is accused of fatally shooting her two terminally ill sons, Carr's surviving son and other supporters gathered on the courthouse steps Thursday to appeal for compassion.
James Scott said he wanted authorities to drop all charges against his mother, who has been in custody since her sons were shot in their beds at a Griffin nursing home June eighth.
Forty-two-year-Randy Scott and 41-year-old Andy Scott suffered from Huntington's disease, a genetic, degenerative nerve disorder that causes involuntary body movement, dementia and death. Their father, Carr's first husband, died of the disease.
James Scott said, ``She's suffered enough already. She's just seen so many die with this.''
He also has the disease.
Spalding County District Attorney William McBroom declined to comment Thursday, but he has argued in court that murder charges are called for in the case.
Spokeswoman Sharon Lunsford said the district attorney expects to wrap up his presentation to the grand jury by Friday afternoon.
