COLUMBIA, S.C. - Quarterback Corey Jenkins looked sharp as South Carolina held a two-hour scrimmage Friday.

Jenkins, replacing Phil Petty this season, had several touchdown passes during the dress rehearsal for the Gamecocks' opener against New Mexico State on Aug. 31.

Jenkins hit running back Thez Robinson on an 8-yard TD pass, then connected with receiver James Adkisson on a 75-yard touchdown play. Jenkins also threw a pair of touchdown passes to freshman wide out Troy Williamson.
Coach Lou Holtz was pleased that the offense didn't turn the ball over. But he thought everyone was a step slow after a grueling camp.

``The entire team looked like they were running on empty,'' Holtz said. ``I think we have gotten about as much as we could from them during two-a-days.''

Holtz says while there's much work to do, he's happy with his team's attitude. ``We may not be very good right now, but I really enjoy being around this group,'' he said.
The Gamecocks will be looking for their third straight bowl season, somesomething never done in South Carolina football history.
