Man in police standoff didn't shoot himself

By
DULUTH - An autopsy revealed that a man who shot at his estranged wife and a police officer Thursday was killed by police, not his own gun.

Gwinnett County's medical examiner said Friday that Roman Khaimoc was hit by several rounds, none of which came from his own gun.

Khaimoc held police on a two-hour standoff in a suburban home north of Atlanta. Officers fired at him after he shot at a police officer, hitting her twice in the leg.

But when officers sent a police robot into the home and learned Khaimoc was dead, they weren't immediately sure whether they'd killed him or he had shot himself.

Duluth officer Jill Maders was expected to recover from her wounds, as was Khaimoc's estranged wife.

Gwinnett police planned to investigate the incident.
