JONESBORO - A supermarket manager testified Wednesday that an autistic man who caused a disturbance in the store screamed obscenities when he tried to talk to him.
Publix manager David Komestat testified in the trial of Julia Munger, who is charged with obstructing a police officer and assault in the Jan. 13 incident that began with Munger's son, Billy, in the store's bathroom.
Komestat said he heard obscenities loud enough to frighten customers in the women's room next door. He called police after being screamed at himself.
Prosecutors say Munger interfered with Clayton County police officer Shannon Stroup when she tried to arrest Billy after he hit her. Stroup testified Tuesday that Munger stood in her way and grabbed her hard enough to cause bruises while Billy ran from the store. Munger contends she was trying to tell Stroup that her son would calm down unless he was agitated further.
Defense witness Rex Gordon testified that he was in the parking lot, and Stroup ``just didn't want to hear anything.''
``Her behavior was very unprofessional,'' Gordon said.
