MARIETTA - A 10-year-old girl escaped from a man who tried to abduct her shortly after she stepped off a school bus in Cobb County. <br>

Police said the man grabbed the girl about 4 p.m. Tuesday as she was walking home from school along Shannon Way. <br>

The suspect covered the girl's mouth and pulled out a knife from his pocket, Marietta police spokeswoman Tanya Twaddell said. The child was able to get away when a vehicle drove by and the suspect released her. <br>

He then ran into nearby woods, according to authorities.
