No one was injured in the fire, which began just before 7 p.m. About 30 people were evacuated from the University Center, which houses a student bookstore, movie theater and other offices.
``The fire was pretty easy to contain,'' said Gerard Rioux, assistant fire chief of the Atlanta Fire Department. ``They had it under control in about 10 minutes.''
Deanna Hines, GSU director of university relations, said the building was undergoing renovations. Officials cited smoke and water damage but were unable to immediately determine an overall estimate.
