Welcome center at Alabama line closed by truck leak

WEST POINT - The state Department of Transportation has closed the welcome center on Interstate 85 northbound near the Alabama state line. <br> <br> The center was closed Tuesday morning after the DOT found a tanker truck parked there was leaking acrylamide. <br> <br> A DOT spokesman said a team had the 50-gallon spill cleaned up by late Tuesday afternoon. He said the leakage was caused by pressure on the cap of the truck holding the chemical. <br> <br> Acrylamide is an organic solid of white, odorless, flake-like crystals mainly used as a coagulant aid in drinking water treatment. <br> <br> Traffic was delayed on I-85, but the interstate remained open. The welcome center will reopen Wednesday.
