Worker convicted on perjury charges

AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA - A federal jury has convicted a former Savannah River Site employee of making false statements of sexual harassment. <br> <br> Shirley E. Smith, an employee in the Energy Department&#39;s Equal Employment Opportunity office, was found guilty yesterday on seven counts of perjury for her accusations against Henry ``Hank&#39;&#39; Harris, also a DOE employee. <br> <br> Smith will be sentenced within the next 90 days. She faces a maximum of 45 years in prison. <br> <br> Smith filed a claim of sexual harassment with the Energy Department in May 2001. After officials investigated Smith&#39;s claims against Harris, perjury charges were filed against her.
