CLEVELAND, OHIO - The national convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held its opening general session Monday in Ohio. <br>

Governor Bob Taft and Mayor Jane Campbell had breakfast with the delegates and welcomed them to Cleveland. <br>
<br>
The mayor, whose mother was active in the civil rights movement, says her mother's work with SCLC founder Martin Luther King Junior helped prompt the future mayor's civic activism. <br>
<br>
Campbell compared her emergence as a leader to Martin Luther King the Third, current SCLC president. She says the 44-year-old King is ready to emerge from the shadow of his widowed mother, Coretta Scott King. <br>
<br>
The SCLC convention runs through Wednesday.
