SMYRNA - Cobb County police are investigating a chain reaction crash on Interstate 285 near Cumberland Mall involving a patrol cruiser, two cars and a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer. <br>

Police spokesman Dana Pierce says the accident happened about 11:45 p.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of I-285 as Sergeant G.A. Abbott attempted to pull behind a Pontiac that that stalled near the median wall. As the officer tried to pull behind the car, the cruiser and a Honda traveling in the same direction glanced off each other, and the Honda left the roadway. <br>

Moments later, the tractor-trailer struck the police car in the rear and both caught fire. The impact caused the police car to hit the stalled Pontiac in the rear. <br>

The officer and the three drivers were treated at the hospital and released. <br>

The accident remains under investigation.
