Atlanta officer kills driver of car that strikes him

ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old Decatur man who rammed into him with a sport utility vehicle. <br> <br> It happened Sunday at about 3:30 a.m. <br> <br> According to police, plainclothes officers in an unmarked vehicle saw a man smash the window of a car parked in Atlanta&#39;s Buckhead district. When the car alarm sounded, the man tried to drive away in a Chevrolet Tahoe. <br> <br> An officer ordered the man to stop, but he continued driving and struck the officer. <br> <br> The driver, Corey Ward, was killed. Five other occupants of the Tahoe were taken into custody. <br> <br> The officer, a five-year veteran of the department, was treated for leg injuries and released from Grady Memorial Hospital. His name was not immediately released. <br> <br> He has been placed on routine administrative leave.
