WRIGHTSVILLE - Two people, including a man arrested on drug charges last month, have been accused of plotting to kill the police chief of Wrightsville, in middle Georgia.
Twenty-eight-year-old Kenny Wright and 40-year-old Shari Hall, both of Wrightsville, were arrested earlier this week and charged with terroristic threats. Authorities say they wanted police Chief Steve Gresham dead.
Johnson County Sheriff Rusty Oxford says he believes the plot stemmed from Wright's arrest on federal charges of selling cocaine to an undercover officer.
The police chief says the original plot was for someone to beat him severely enough to maim him and end his career. Investigators later turned up a murder plot, he said.
Wright and Hall face up to five years in prison if convicted.
