ATLANTA - Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Caray is back in the booth Thursday, about two-and-a-half weeks after having angioplasty to clear an artery.
Caray joined regular partner Joe Simpson for the radio broadcast of the Braves' game against the Florida Marlins. He had the procedure done July 8 -- a week after fellow Atlanta broadcaster Don Sutton returned from surgery to remove a cancerous kidney.
Caray credited Sutton for his decision to have a body scan that revealed an artery that was 96 percent blocked. The blocked artery put him at risk for a heart attack. The growth on Sutton's kidney was detected through a body scan.
During an angioplasty, a tiny balloon is inflated in the artery to open blood flow. The procedure was performed by Doctor Charles Wickliffe at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Caray is the son of the late Chicago Cubs' broadcaster Harry Caray. He's in his 27th season in the Braves' booth.
