Gwinnett mother pleads guilty for reckless conduct in teenage keg party

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett mother pleaded guilty Friday to reckless conduct and furnishing alcohol to minors, two years after a 16-year-old drank at her house and died in a car accident on the way home. <br> <br> Roseanne Marks, 44, was sentenced to two years on probation, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and required to perform 100 hours of community service for her role in the underage drinking party. <br> <br> ``We never said she needed to go to prison,&#39;&#39; Assistant District Attorney Phil Wiley said Friday. ``But we wanted to send the message that if you give alcohol to minors, we&#39;re coming after you.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Marks was initially indicted on felony involuntary manslaughter for the death of Kirby Cruce, who died in a wreck after leaving the Aug. 11, 2000 party. <br> <br> Those charges were dropped because it did not specify that Marks provided the alcohol to Cruce. <br> <br> According to previous testimony, Marks allowed friends of her daughter to set up beer kegs in her garage for a party. Witnesses gave conflicting accounts of whether Kirby drank beer from the kegs or from beer she brought to the party herself. <br> <br> Authorities said Cruce died with a blood-alcohol level above 0.10. The legal blood-alcohol limit in Georgia is 0.08.
