Cliff Floyd moved a step closer to the playoffs. This time, he was traded to Boston, where he reunites with former teammate Pedro Martinez.
Floyd was dealt by Montreal on Tuesday night nearly three weeks after he was traded by the Florida Marlins to the Expos.
The Red Sox sent minor league pitchers Seung Song and Sun-Woo Kim to Montreal.

After hitting .287 with 18 homers and 57 RBIs with Florida, Floyd was dealt back to Montreal on July 11 and struggled - batting .207 with three homers and four RBIs in 53 at-bats.

``It's weird. Getting traded twice in a season is something new for me, but this is the way this game rolls,'' Floyd said in Montreal. ``You've got to go with the flow and I'm going to a great situation. Boston is a great team.''

With Martinez (14-2) on the mound, the Red Sox have been unbeatable. He pitched two-hit ball over eight innings in a 6-0 win over the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night and is undefeated in his last seven decisions with a 1.10 ERA.

``That's vintage Pedro Martinez,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. ``About the third inning, he really started to get into a rhythm, changed speeds, hit his spots.''

In other Al games, it was: New York Yankees 9, Texas 6; Seattle 5, Detroit 4, 10 innings; Tampa Bay 10, Baltimore 3; Toronto 13, Kansas City 4; Chicago White Sox 3, Minnesota 0; and Cleveland 5, Oakland 4

Boston owner John Henry, who sold the Marlins to buy the Red Sox this year, completed the deal for Floyd while Martinez was helping Boston move within a game of the Angels in the wild-card race by striking out nine. The trade was announced during the game and Martinez approved.

``He's always happy, always smiling,'' said Martinez, who played with Floyd in Montreal from 1994-96. ``I think he's going to be a great addition.''

Not every one on the Red Sox felt the deal was necessary.

``I always said we didn't need anything, but we don't make those decisions,'' All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra said. ``I'm happy with our team. We're sitting pretty, and I'm confident with the guys who have been playing day in and day out.''
