MILL HALL, PENNSYLVANIA - A former Lock Haven University football player was being held in Clinton County jail after being extradited from Georgia on murder and kidnapping charges.

Twenty-four-year-old Fabian Desmond Smart of Clyo, Georgia, was arraigned in Mill Hall, Pennslyvania, late Tuesday night. He was arrested Monday at his job in Rincon, Georgia, and flown to Pennsylvania after an extradition hearing yesterday in Georgia.

Smart and 24-year-old Willie Marvin Williams Junior of Philadelphia, are charged with murder, kidnapping and conspiracy in the 1999 beating death of 21-year-old Jason McMann. Authorities say Smart and Williams fought with McMann in Lock Haven, then took him into the woods about 20 miles from town, beat him again and left him to die.

Williams has been in custody since his arrest Monday in Philadelphia. District Attorney Ted McKnight said he expected to file charges against two other suspects, whom he would not name.

Smart was a student at Lock Haven University and a free safety on the football team at the time.
