FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA - A radio disc jockey, whose brother-in-law is charged with murdering her, was strangled with a shoe lace, say investigators who are looking for a possible second suspect.
Thirty-four-year-old William Edward (Ed) Brown remained in the Okaloosa County Jail in Crestview today as authorities disclosed more details of how 29-year-old Valerie Brown of Mary Esther, died last week. She hosted a midday program on WMXZ.
A sheriff's report states the shoe lace was wrapped so tightly around her neck that portions became imbedded in her skin.
Ed Brown's mother, Richetta Brown, found the body in an apartment that she helped clean and maintain near Fort Walton Beach on June 13th. Deputies are trying to find a man seen entering the apartment with him two days earlier.
Sheriff's spokesman Rick Hord said investigators are still trying to determine a motive but believe they have solid evidence against Ed Brown. He was arrested last Friday in Tifton, Georgia, when he crashed the victim's car after a police chase.
The evidence includes a pair of shoes found in the home that Ed Brown shares with his mother.
A lace was missing from the left shoe. Deputies said the one in the right shoe is consistent with the shape, color and other characteristics of the one wrapped around Valerie Brown's neck.
