GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - Jim Burt hit a two-run double with two out in the bottom of the ninth Sunday, capping a dramatic day of baseball and lifting defending national champion Miami to an 8-7 victory over Florida in NCAA regional play.
After Kevin Howard scored the winning run, the Hurricanes (33-27) mobbed Burt near second base and celebrated like they had just won the College World Series.
And now, they are just two victories away from an improbable trip back. Next Friday, the defending champions, who were below .500 in mid-May, open a best-of-three series at South Carolina with a trip to Omaha on the line.
